Skoda's Superb new offering

Skoda has released the first official photographs of its all-new flagship, the Superb. Although styled to appeal to a conservative audience the Superb is a nonetheless handsome and generously proportioned car. At 4,838mm long and 1,783mm wide the new Superb is 35mm longer and 18mm wider than its predecessor, although at 1,461mm high and with a wheelbase of 2,761mm it's 8mm lower and 42mm shorter between the wheels than the outgoing model. Presumably, this is help tighten the car's proportions and make it look less like a stretch limo. Hopefully, the astonishing interior space of the outgoing model will be part of the new model's layout as well. The new Superb digs deep into VW/Audi's technology bin so will be available with adaptive cornering headlamps, multi-zone climate control, automatic parking assist and a lot more that will be revealed by the time the car debuts at the Geneva show. Safety specification will include nine airbags and ESP as standard, while the engine range grows to six including three petrol and three diesel engines with power outputs ranging from 105bhp to 260bhp. Both manual and DSG transmissions will be offered and the new car goes on sale in Irelandin September 2008.
