Mercedes facelifts SL... again

The Mercedes-Benz has given its flagship roadster a major overhaul for 2008. The most obvious changes are to the looks - Mercedes has fitted a new front end, powerdomes on the bonnet, air outlets in the wings (inspired by the classic 1954 300SL) a new rear bumper and trapezoidal tailpipes. Inside there's a new steering wheel and dial cluster. Under the skin Mercedes has fitted a new 315hp, 360Nm 3.5-litre V6 in the SL 350 (0- 100km/h in 6.2 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the outgoing SL 350) which offers improved economy and a sportier feel. The 388hp V8 in the SL500 and the 517hp twin-turbo V12 in the SL600 are unchanged. The revised SL also gets a variable ratio steering rack, xenon headlamps, Bluetooth and navigation as standard. The 'Airscarf' neck-level heating system, swivelling headlamps and a Harman Kardon audio system are optional while the SL500 and 600 get active suspension and 18-inch wheels. The revised SL makes its debut at the Geneva Show in March and goes on sale in Ireland in April, 2008.
