Mercedes Unveils CLC

Mercedes-Benz has finally unveiled its new CLC, an entry-level coupé aimed at young and upwardly mobile customers. Although it's got a new name and a new look the CLC is based on the previous generation Sports Coupé albeit with over 1100 new or improved components. The main improvements include a new variable rack steer system for better handling (Sport models only), revised entertainment/navigation systems, standard parking sensors and an uprated engine in the 200 Kompressor model. Obviously, Mercedes has also completely redesigned the front and rear so that the CLC bears a modern Mercedes family resemblance while the cabin is also updated and improved. Mercedes will be hoping the new CLC will build on the success of the old Sport Coupé which sold 320,000 examples since 2001 with 70 percent of those buyers being new to the Mercedes brand. Over 40 percent later opted for a larger Mercedes model which makes it an important strategic model for Mercedes. It goes on sale in Ireland in June 2008.
